In this class, participants will learn the importance of establishing direct communication between the parties involved. Topics will include scope of practice (expectations), ethics (neutrality, confidentiality, transparency), managing the flow of conversation, active listening skills, educational terminology, best practices for positioning during interpreting encounters, and the autonomy of both parents and teachers. The class will also incorporate role-playing exercises to demonstrate proper positioning and effective management of interpreting sessions. We will highlight the importance of learning special education vocabulary and delivering meaning-based interpretations.
